Artist’s Statement

I am Roland Dimick, physician, artist, entrepreneur, philanthropist.  Art has always been an important part of my life, and I quite literally made it through medical school due to art.

Born out of simplicity and practicality, I had nothing but a pen and paper, and I transposed the smooth curves of nature and the human form, with the heartache and resilience of medicine into lines and themes that still make up my art today.

Understanding the connection that people make with my art led to the concept of Rollie Studio, which stands to interface humanity and art.

My work is dedicated to seeing the beauty of life, sharing that wonder, and importantly showing care and love.

Q & A

  1. How did you get your mad skills or big break?

I’ve been creating art for my entire lifetime, and hit on Rollie Studio’s iconic style in the early 1990’s. I realized that my style was scalable while creating matchbook art and paintings for local bars in Minneapolis and have been creating art inspired apparel ever since.

  2. Why do you do what you do?

I love art for itself; creating and sharing art, inspiring people to create their own art, and to find their artistic voice.  I also believe art is inherently therapeutic and I want to make that healing power available to everyone.

  3. How can you help the person reading this?

I support art therapy for kids and adolescents through direct philanthropy.  I help local artists by collaborating and giving them exposure to the community and crossing boundaries of different disciplines of art. I enrich the 9th & 9th community by being the neighborhood’s first and only exclusive art gallery.

  4. Why should they trust you with their time or dolla?

From my first matchbook to my latest painting, my style of art sustains a level of curiosity, esthetic, and relevance. Some of the current images in the gallery originated two decades ago and still look fresh today, and my newest work is always pushing the boundaries of form and line in new ways. Supporting Rollie Studio will help to sustain a better world through art.

  5. What do you want them to do next?

Come to Rollie Studio and look around.  See the art all around you.  Support local artists and business in this vibrant and burgeoning community because it always pays back more.
